SGC Scholarships
We strongly encourage you to find support in your local area, such as student based organizations, your University or employer, non-profit support groups, etc... SGC scholarships are given through a selective process, driven by delegate need and excellence.
Award Value: varies according to delegate need and available sponsorship funding
Eligibility: open to all delegates. Participation and significant contribution to the online discussions prior to SGC is required as is full attendance and participation at SGC.
Selection Criteria: Various criteria will be used to ensure that recipients will be strong participants in SGC and will contribute to the overall success of SGC. Applicants from under-represented and/or developing nations may be given priority to ensure a diversity of ideas, experiences, and nationalitites.
Closing Date: scholarships will be awarded during September 2006.
Number of awards: varies according to delegate need and available sponsorship funding.
How to apply: To apply for SGC Scholarships please send the following to Tim Bailey, SGC Event Manager:
- A letter clearly identifying why you request this scholarship and how you have attemted to secure your own funding outside SGC
- A budget showing how the scholarship money will be used and how your other expenses will be paid
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty or co-workers

Peter Diamandis Leadership Award
Dr. Peter H. Diamandis
Dr. Peter Diamandis is a pioneer and leader in the commercial space arena. Dr. Diamandis is the Chairman and CEO of the X PRIZE Foundation (www.xprize.org), which recently awarded a US$10,000,000 prize for private spaceflight. He is also the CEO of Zero Gravity Corporation (www.nogravity.com) a commercial space company that offers FAA-certified weightless flights utilizing a specially modified Boeing 727-200 aircraft.
Peter is a Founder and Trustee of the International Space University (ISU) where he served as the University's first Managing Director. He is also co-Founder of Space Adventures, the company which brokered Dennis Tito and Mark Shuttleworth's flight to the International Space Station.
Dr. Diamandis is a graduate of MIT and Harvard Medical School and the winner of the Konstantine Tsiolkovsky Award, the Aviation & Space Technology Laurel, and the 2003 World Technology Award for Space. In 8th grade, while living in New York , Dr. Diamandis won first place in the Estes rocket design contest.
Dr. Diamandis has kindly donated this award to recognise and encourage the leaders of tomorrow.
The award
The Peter Diamandis Leadership Award has been created to recognise great leadership and initiative amongst the SGC delegates.
Award Value: 1 international return flight to Spain, purchased prior to SGC, and US$500 cash for expenses.
Eligibility: The Award is open to all delegates. Participation and significant contribution to the online discussions prior to SGC is required as is full attendance and participation at SGC.
Selection Criteria: This is a performance based award. The award will be given to the delegate who makes the most significant contribution to the online discussions prior to SGC, and who demonstrates the greatest leadership and initiative during this period. Satisfactory answers to the official application form are also required. The recipient will be determined by the SGC organizing committee.
Closing Date: The Award will be assessed during the application period for SGC.
Number of awards: One (1) award will be presented.
Award Presentation: The Award will be presented during the SGC closing ceremony.
How to apply: No application is necessary. All successful applicants will be assessed for this award.
